How do we make sure that women’s issues will be discussed in peace negotiations? How do we guarantee that peace agreements will be gender-responsive? These are only few of the questions that Jasmin Nario-Galace of the Women Engaged in Action on 1325 floated before the panel discussion began at a Women’s Consultation that happened at Richmonde Hotel Eastwood City last June 21, 2011.
Sulong CARHRIHL and Conciliation Resources(CR) teamed up with Colombia-based organization CIASE to sponsor a Comparative Learning Series that features a Study Exchange between the Philippines and Colombia with the theme “Strengthening Women’s Role in Peace Process”.
Last May 31, 2011, The Center for Peace Education and WE ACT 1325, with support from Sulong CARHRIHL, had their first Women, Peace and Security Training for Philippine Peacekeepers. Held at the AFP Peacekeeping Operations Center in Camp O’ Donell, Capas, Tarlac, 49 soon to be deployed peacekeepers were given different lectures on Women, Peace and Security.
Pagsanjan, Laguna – In line with Sulong CARHRIHL‘s belief in catering young people’s issues as relevant issues on peace and human rights advocacy, the network in partnership with Families of Victims of Involuntary Disappearance and Generation Youth Peace Network facilitated a Youth Peace Camp for members of Samahan ng mga Anak ng Deseparacidos (SAD) last April 25 – 28, 2011 at Residencia del Riyo, Pagsanjan, Laguna.
Sorsogon City, Sorsogon – Teacher’s Dignity Coalition(TDC) Bicol Region and Sulong CARHRIHL conducted a CARHRIHL and Peace Training for Teachers last May 11 – 13, 20011 at the Sorsogon State College. Said event was attended by elementary and high school teachers as well as college professors from the region.
Quezon City – In response to need for consultation with the different sectors regarding the Comprehensive Agreement on Social and Economic Reform (CASER), Sulong CARHRIHL, in partnership with KAISAHAN and Manindigan sa Peace Talks, held a Farmers’ Forum and Consultation last April 19, 2011 at Ramberry Apartelle, Quezon City.
Quezon City – As a part of the Comparative Learning Project, Conciliation Resources, Sulong CARHRIHL, Center for Peace Education and WE ACT 1325 organized a forum on the Impact of UNSC Resolution 1325 on Peace Process and the Agreements at Caritas Room, Miriam College, Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City last April 15, 2011.
The main speaker for the forum was Prof. Christine Bell, Chair in International Law of University of Utleg. Prof. Bell’s research interests lie in the areas of transitional justice, peace agreements and international law, minority rights, discrimination, and gender and law.
Quezon City - Sulong CARHRIHL, in partnership with Manindigan sa Peacetalks sponsored a Roundtable Discussion about the Joint Monitoring Committee and its Imperative to the Peace Process last March 16, 2011 in celebration of the 13th anniversary of the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law between the GPH and the NDF.
Manindigan sa Peace Talks held a Peace March last February 15, 2010 at the Quezon Memorial Circle to formally launch the campaign network and mount their Peace Manifesto. Members of the campaign network for peace advocates, held the march in time for the first day of the formal peace talks between the GPH and the CPP-NPA-NDF to raise public’s awareness.
Sulong CARHRIHL joins CSOs in forming Manindigan para sa Peace Talks, a civil society campaign network of peace advocates, NGOs and people’s organizations to raise public consciousness and interest on the peace processes. The group came together after identifying a common ground that peace is a basic right and responsibility of the people through peacebuilding initiatives.
